We’ll answer questions relating to Stage 6 Science, things you learnt on your excursion, help with your worksheets or if you have questions back in class.

Chemistry

We’ll cover the chemistry used in drinking water filtration, wastewater treatment, water recycling and water quality monitoring. For example:

  • Application of acids, bases and understanding the role of natural buffers in water
  • Uses of polymers to protect public health and the environment
  • Analysing the need for monitoring water quality

Earth and Environmental Science

We'll assist in questions about water treatment, re-use and management. We can also point you to information on how we are helping build a sustainable and resilient Sydney by managing our water, waste and energy resources.

General enquires

We are also happy to help answer questions about what we do or working here.

This is an opportunity for you to ask questions about things you can't find easily in your textbooks about Sydney Water, water and the water industry. So ask a question in the Q&A tab or test your knowledge using the Quick Poll tab below.

This is where you can ask your questions. We will share answers with you, other students and teachers on this forum.

If we get a question that isn't relevant to Sydney Water's roles or inappropriate we will answer these privately.

HSC Q&A

  • Sample Q: What polymers are used to treat wastewater to help produce recycled water for re-use?

Sample A: We use polymers in a process called flocculation to stick fine particles together to aid in removing these particles. We can also use polymers in reverse osmosis to remove particles <0.0005 μM!

You can read more on the specific polymers we use in our fact sheets, found on our HSC Chemistry web page.
