Sydney Water is working to improve the wastewater network in Westleigh.

This is part of Sydney Water’s Wet Weather Internal Surcharge Program which aims to minimise wastewater spills, overflows and drainage issues that occur during wet weather (heavy rains).

What we’ve been working on

  • In 2020 we spoke with residents experiencing issues with drainage and wastewater spills in their homes. This helped us to better understand the problem and develop a solution.
  • In 2021, we carried out investigation work in the area to refine a solution.
  • In late 2021 we carried out the first stage of this project which involved pipe relining of existing pipes in our network.
    • Pipe relining is a non invasive method of reinforcing the condition of existing pipes.
    • This involved accessing maintenance holes located in some private properties in the area to reline existing pipes.
  • We are now planning to start the remaining construction work to repair and upgrade the network.

To make the necessary improvements to the network to avoid future spills and overflows, we will need to install:

  • a new wastewater pipe on Eucalyptus Drive
  • two new maintenance holes in the roadway and road verge on Eucalyptus Drive
  • work will involve excavating in the roadway and road verges to install the new infrastructure.

What to expect during construction

Noise, dust, and vibration

There will be some noise from the digging and machinery in your street. You may also experience some dust and vibration. We’ll keep noise to a minimum and avoid unnecessary loud noises. We will have measures in place to suppress dust and vibration as much as possible.

Traffic changes

There will be changes to traffic flow on Eucalyptus Drive during our work.

Eucalyptus Drive will remain open however we will need to divert traffic around the work area.

Signage and traffic control will be in place to guide traffic.

Temporary site compound

As part of our work, we will also need to establish a temporary site compound in the area.

The compound will be used for a small site office, crew amenities and storage of pipes and equipment.

The compound will be located on the Council owned grass verge on Eucalyptus Drive, adjacent to the tennis courts. Please see project map below showing site compound location.
