Learning snake and spider safety in Kemps Creek

With the summer weather heating up, the Kemps Creek Dual Pressure Mains safety team recently held a snake and spider awareness session at the Gurner Avenue site compound.

The session covered how to spot and identify different types of snakes you might see around Kemps Creek, as well as insights into snake behaviour and what to do if you come across one. The trainer shared tips for staying safe around snakes, like wearing protective gear (boots and long pants), staying alert, and cleaning up work areas. The crew learned the vital steps when dealing with snake or spider bites are to stay calm, put on a pressure bandage, and get medical help by calling emergency services.

The crew gained valuable knowledge in not only recognising and avoiding potential snake encounters but also how to respond effectively in case of emergencies.

The key takeaway was to keep cool, keep your distance, don't make any sudden moves, and call-in professional snake handlers when needed.
