We believe that every Australian should have easy access to a natural place to swim and relax. We’ve made it our mission to make the Parramatta River swimmable again by 2025.
The Parramatta River Catchment Group (PRCG) was formed in 2008 and Sydney Water is one of 14 partners.
As a PRCG we have set a vision, purpose and mission:
Our vision – Sydney deserves a world class river
Our purpose – to make the Parramatta River a living river
Our mission – to make the Parramatta River swimmable again by 2025.
To achieve our mission, we have worked together to develop the Parramatta River Masterplan. Sydney Water has been identified as the best organisation to lead the delivery of this Masterplan, working with all of our partners on the effort.
Swimmability is our goal. Did you know there are currently four swimming sites along the Parramatta River? These include
Lake Parramatta
Cabarita Beach
Chiswick Baths
Dawn Fraser Pools
We’re looking at 12 additional potential swimming sites to make swimmable by 2025. You can find more information about where these sites are here.
Take this survey and let us know your thoughts on the Parramatta River Masterplan and our Ten Steps to a Living River. We'd also love for you to share your memories of the River here.
What does swimmability mean for us? Swimmability encompasses six key aspects:
