- Our long-term plans for Mill Stream
At Mill Stream, on the eastern side of Sydney Airport at Mascot, there are wet weather overflow points called Emergency Relief Structures. These are an essential part of our wastewater network, allowing excess wastewater to overflow into stormwater drains or waterways during wet weather, protecting your homes and businesses from flooding.
Sydney Water owns and operates eight Emergency Relief Structures that discharge wastewater to Mill Stream during wet weather as part of the Malabar Wastewater System, which services about two million Sydneysiders. We are working to reduce both the volume and frequency of overflows to improve the Mill Stream environment and develop long-term solutions.
