Identified as a key growth area by the NSW Government, the Austral Leppington catchment sits along the eastern front of the South West Growth Area and parts of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.

This catchment will see substantial growth over the coming years, increasing from 2,300 dwellings in 2022 to approximately 38,000 dwellings by 2056.

To enable this growth and development, Sydney Water is delivering a number of critical water and wastewater assets.

This includes the Bonds Creek Carrier Extension - a 1.4km extension to the recently completed wastewater network delivered by the Austral Leppington Wastewater Stage 3, Phase 1 project.

When operational, this project will see the local wastewater network extended to service an additional 2,000 lots across the catchment.

Project status

Throughout 2023, Sydney Water undertook preliminary survey and geotechnical investigations along the proposed concept alignment to inform the design process by identifying ground conditions and locating services. The project's Review of Environmental Factors (REF) was also completed and can be viewed in the Document Library on this page.

In late 2024, Sydney Water appointed a delivery contractor and begin construction. By 2026, we expect to commission the Bonds Creek Carrier Extension, in line with the commissioning of the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre at Kemps Creek.

Sydney Water together with our delivery partner Quickway, have started construction on the Bonds Creek Carrier Extension.
    Construction involves:

The pipeline starts from the western end of Eleventh Avenue, crosses Fourth Avenue to the pump station at the corner of Eighth Avenue in Austral. We're working closely with property owners to coordinate this work and minimise disruption.
