Sydney Water and Strathfield Council are working together to improve the health of the Cooks River.
This involves renewing a section of the Cooks River at Ford Park and Maria Reserve to create a liveable city and vibrant life for all its inhabitants.
Together with Strathfield Council we’re investigating ways to do this in a more natural way if the site is suitable. This can be done by replacing the concrete banks with ones made of rocks and native plants which will improve the visual amenity of Ford Park and Maria Reserve.
The project is in the early planning stage, and we aren’t always able to naturalise the banks as it depends on available space, land conditions and other constraints.
A key driver for the project is to improve the health and quality of stormwater before it enters the Cooks River. This can be achieved by exploring the potential for a Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) at Ford Park and Maria Reserve which can be in various forms such as raingardens and wetlands.
The timing and delivery for future stages depend on Sydney Water and Council funding priorities.
