Why are we looking to expand our supplier base?

    We are looking to expand our supplier base for Major Projects. As presented to the market, we have large number of projects and keen to attract the most capable suppliers for these projects. To achieve this, we will use open market approach for majority of our Major Project tenders.

    What is Supply Nation?

    Sydney Water is member of Supply Nation and encourage using Aboriginal owned businesses for our direct and indirect procurement.


    What is the tender process for Shared Purchasing?

    The Shared Purchasing team is planning a ‘meet the supplier’ in September and more communication will be provided to the market about it soon.

    For Major Projects, Sydney Water will provide Shared Purchasing packages as part of tender process for individual Major Projects.


    What are the tender costs?

    The Parties will be responsible for their own cost in respect of tendering. Sydney Water reserves the right at its discretion, to partially compensate the cost of tendering should such circumstances arise.


    What is TOTEX?

    Totex is about balancing capital and operational expenditure to achieve the lowest whole of life costs. While we are continuing to work through the procurement details, we are looking for tenders to bring construction efficiencies while incorporating quality components into the new facility that will ensure life cycle costs can be best managed.

     Through an interactive tender process, we will work closely with you and your suppliers, and particularly your technology providers, to make sure the choices made project design minimise for the long run operating expenses, are the best selection for future flexibility, and the best choice for customers.


    What is your procurement method and model?

    Procurement method 

    Sydney Water will use open market approach for majority of Major Project tenders. In order to be included in open market tender, all suppliers need to be pre-qualified through our system.

    Procurement model 

    Sydney Water use a structured process to determine the optimum Procurement/Delivery Strategy for individual projects. Delivery Partner or PM services is one of the many options available when deciding on Procurement/Delivery Strategy that might be used in accordance with suitability for specific projects.

    Sydney Water currently have 2 projects in delivery for which Delivery Partner model is used which are Lower South Creek and Prosect to Macarthur (PROMAC).

    What is iWORCS?

    Sydney Water will continue to use iWORCS in the delivery of our projects. In-line with our continuous improvement model, Sydney Water review the use of software regularly and how it adds value to our customers/stakeholders. We have recently started using an automated function of iWORCS to assist with works communications and will monitor the benefits from this automated process. iWORCS will be part of the Major Projects process, where applicable.


    What is NEC4?

    Sydney Water has amended the NEC4 suite of contract to make it appropriate for Australia.

    What is a circular economy?

    The Advanced Water Recycling Centre will perform circular economy activities where  resources are recovered and re-used for their greatest economic value, through development of a bioenergy hub at the AWRC to reuse waste and generate renewable energy.

    What is a brine pipeline?

    Brine is the salty waste stream that is the by-product of a reverse osmosis process. 


    SWSOOS - is that the ocean outfall process?

    The Southern and Western Suburbs Ocean Outfall System (SWSOOS) is the trunk sewer that services a large portion of our customers in the southern part of Sydney. 

    This is a critical infrastructure system that transfer wastewater to our Malabar treatment plant which releases treated wastewater via the deep ocean outfalls. 

    The SWSOOS will continue to be a key piece of infrastructure to service system. Likewise, our three largest coastal wastewater treatment plants will continue to release treated wastewater via our deep ocean outfall network.
