Ryde to Pymble pipeline upgrade

The original Ryde to Pymble pipeline runs from Ryde Pumping Station on Victoria Road, to Roland Avenue, Wahroonga. To cater for the growth in the area, we are planning to reinstate and upgrade the connection to Wahroonga Reservoir by constructing a new pipeline.
Project benefits
The new pipeline will:
increase the water distribution systems’ capacity for servicing the increase in drinking water demand in the area
cater for increased growth within the North Shore
have a 100-year design life.
Current status
We are currently carrying out investigations to understand the location and condition of the existing pipe. We will then consider options for the alignment of a new pipeline. We expect to have this design in Q3 2025, with construction expected to commence in Q1 2026. Construction is then anticipated to take two years to complete.
We are committed to working with the local community to ensure minimum impacts.

We are considering reinstating the Ryde-Pymble trunk main, a drinking water pipeline that runs from Ryde Pump Station on Victoria Road to The Wahroonga Reservoir Site on Roland Avenue. As part of our planning and design work, we need to do some investigation work which will involve potholing and road cutting.
Your water services won’t be impacted during this work.
Timing of investigations
Our investigations will take place from 12 February 2025 for three weeks, weather permitting. To minimise disruption, we will carry this work out during the night from 9pm to 5am.
Once we’ve finished our investigations, we may return for further surveys. We’ll write to you again to let you know before we start.
How will this work impact me?
We will be carrying out investigations on Victoria Road and Hermitage Road, West Ryde.
Traffic and parking changes
For the safety of our workers and the community, there will be partial lane closures where we are doing investigations, and we may need to use some parking spaces. We’ll have signage in place to let you know where changes apply, and our traffic controllers will help keep traffic flowing around our work area while keeping you safe.
Noise
There will be noise from the potholing and road cutting. We will do our best to keep noise to a minimum.
Where do I get more information?
