We’re planning for Sydney’s future by delivering wastewater services that will allow our city to grow while also protecting public health and the environment.
Our West Camden Water Recycling Plant is currently operating at full capacity and requires an upgrade in order to service growth in the catchment as well as maintain compliance of our Environmental Protection Licence into the future.
The upgrade will double the treatment capacity of the current plant to be able to service 176,000 people and ensure sufficient capacity to service future growth in the catchment until 2046. In the short term, the plant will also cater for temporary flows being received from the South West Growth Area until the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centrewill be in operation (in 2026).
The majority of the construction will be done within the existing Sydney Water site, to minimise impact to the community.
The upgrade of the West Camden Water Recycling Plant will help Sydney Water deliver on its vision of creating a better life with world-class water services.

Tree planting project with Camden Council and Downer | BMD
The West Camden Water Recycling Plant Upgrade project team and the local community planted over 3,000 native trees at Elizabeth Macarthur Reserve as part of our biodiversity offset.
This ongoing bushland restoration project was a collaboration with Camden Council and our delivery partners BMD and Downer.
The area is slowly establishing itself and the project is proud to leave a legacy behind.
