    Wastewater Pumping Station Upgrade

UPDATE: We're ready to return to this site to complete the upgrades. Work we start on Monday 21 November 2023.

We’re upgrading the wastewater pumping station to improve our wastewater network. Most of our work will take place within the pumping station site, such as replacing pumps and valves, electrical upgrades and structural work, such as new platforms.

However, there will be visible changes, such as:

    • a site compound will be set up next to the pumping station

    • we will have temporary pipes connected to a maintenance hole outside the pumping station. Pedestrians will be diverted around the footpath impacted by these pipes.

    • we will demolish one building and replace it with a new vent stack that will be 14 m high

This work will not affect drinking water or wastewater services.

Start: March 2022 (Project was on hold and restarting late November 2023) Finish: mid-2024

    Wastewater Pumping Station Upgrade

We’re upgrading the wastewater pumping station to ensure a reliable sewer system to protect the environment and the health of our communities.

    UPDATE

04/04/2023: We are soon returning to site to complete this work. We will begin site re-establishment on Monday 18 March.

03/08/23: This project is still on hold until we can send our specialist crews back to finish this upgrade. The fencing needs to be left up due to hazards within the work area. We've tidied up the area and will continue to maintain it. Thank you for your patience during this time.

20/10/22: Wet weather can impact our ability to work within the wastewater system. Due to the expected wet weather and delays in overseas material delivery, we are unable to complete the work at the wastewater pumping station this year.

On Thursday 27 October 2022, our site will begin to be packed down. We will return in the new year to finish this critical work.

    Work will involve:

    • setting up a site compound in the adjacent car park

    • setting up temporary fencing for the duration of the work

    • setting up a temporary emergency bypass station

    • providing buried pipework between bypass and valve chamber

    • replacing dry well pumps and ventilation system

    • replacing valves and associated pipework

    • providing new  9m ventilation stack, ductwork and vents

    • removing wet well ladders and steelwork

    • extending the existing concrete driveway

    • tree removal/ trimming

    • installing structural platforms to raise kiosks above 1 in 100- year flood levels

    • installing a new site fence

    • restoring all affected areas.

This work will not affect drinking water or wastewater services.

Start: April 2022 Finish: late 2024

    Stormwater Renewals - Package 1

Greenacre, Punchbowl, Belfield and Wiley Park.

After our investigations in March 2022, we have identified where in the channel needs repairing.

Soon we are going to start work in sections that are in need of repairing in Salt Pan Creek and Cooks River Catchment. This work will maintain the structural integrity to ensure its ability to safely and efficiently transport floodwaters from urban areas to catchment outlets

We will be working within the channel in the following locations:

    Work will involve:

    • site set up including compound and worker amenities

    • removing trees in different locations along the channel that have overgrown and caused damage to the structure

    • structural repairs may require access via private properties. Immediately impacted residents will be notified directly

    Structural repairs -

    • surface preparation and cleaning

    • removal of existing damaged channel walls and/or base

    • installation of new channel reinforcements (either brick laying or concrete pouring depending on what channel)

    • restoration of site area.

    What to expect

    • set up of site compounds and worker amenities

    • an increase in traffic movements at our work zones

    • crane operations to move our machinery into the work area

    • dewatering including the use of pumps and sandbags

    • set of confined space safety equipment

    • an increase in noise while we work to remove the damaged walls and base of the channels and while we use high pressure water jetting to clean

    • generators, excavation work and lights (do we need to add this much detail)

Working inside a live stormwater system can be challenging. We will access the channel via Sydney Water easements, however in some locations the construction corridor may also include private properties.
